4 Signs You’re Your Dog’s Favorite Person
You know you love your dog, but have you ever wondered if your dog loves you just as much? There are several signs you can watch for to see who is your dog’s favorite.
1. They Rub Their Head and Body Against You
Have you ever noticed your dog rubbing their head against your leg, or against your shoulder as you sit down next to them? A lot of people assume their dog is just trying to get their owner to to pet them— and that very well could be true! Most dogs aren’t going to turn down a good pet session. However, dogs see the world through their nose in a way people don’t. One of the ways they mark their territory, is by putting their scent on something. When they rub their head or body against you, they may actually be trying to mark you with their scent to tell other dogs to back off.
2. They Wiggle When You Get Home
When you get home from work or a friend’s house, does your dog wag their tail so hard their entire back end wiggles back and forth? This is them showing their excitement and joy at seeing you. You’re definitely one of their favorites!
3. Your Dog Brings You Their Favorite Toy
When a dog brings someone a toy, a lot of times that person’s reaction is to throw the toy, assuming the dog wants to play fetch. They may want to play fetch, but there are actually two other possibilities as well.
One, is that your dog sees you as the leader in this relationship, and they want to show you that they respect you, and hope that you’ll respect them if they bring you a toy they value. Another possibility is that your dog wants to show you that they trust you, so they bring you their favorite possession to show you they trust you with it.
Next time your dog randomly brings you one of their favorite toys, rather than throw it, try holding it for a bit before giving it back. It may actually make them really happy to see you accept it from them.
4. Your Dog Is Relaxed Around You
When you sit down to talk with someone you aren’t particularly fond of, chances are, you aren’t going to be super relaxed. We’re typically on our best behavior, and a bit on guard around people we don’t know well or don’t trust very much. Your dog is similar.
If your dog sees you as someone they can trust who they know has their best interest in mind, they’ll feel free to relax and let down their guard. If your dog looks relaxed around you, it’s a good sign you are their favorite.
